Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Ketter made his first official visit to peacetime locations in Kahawa Garrison on 29th July, 2025. Kahawa Garrison, the home of Communication and Logistics for Kenya Army, hosts a number of Kenya Army Formations and Units which offer logistical sustenance to troops both in operations and peacetime areas, a vital component in driving the entire Kenya Defence Forces to meet its objectives.
In his address the Commander underscored the importance of achieving the Kenya Army goals and strategic plan through strict adherence to professionalism.
“Kenya Defence Forces is known world over for being a professional force through the many successful missions we have engaged in. We seek to maintain this image and even further it by constantly reminding ourselves of our core values that help us meet our day to day tasks. We, in leadership, shall endeavour to provide solutions, necessary guidance and support that is needed to ensure the KDF soldier is mission ready”, he said.
The visit also enabled Lt Gen Ketter familiarise himself with logistical preparedness of the respective Formations and Units in fulfilling the Kenya Army Mandate. This includes assessing their operational effectiveness through the ongoing modernisation programmes, personnel training and welfare of soldiers which are key pillars in ensuring sustainability of the entire Kenya Army.
Commander Kenya Army also was able to interact with the soldiers and have fast hand feedback on areas that need attention. In return, he urged the Kenya Army personnel to remain steadfast in accomplishing various tasks that are assigned to them.
The Commander also affirmed that the roll out of the Pay As You Eat (PAYE) programme has been a success.
“This is the first month of rolling out the PAYE meal policy and I confirm that the roll out has been successful. This policy gives you full control of your Mess Cash Allowance (MCA) while at the same time offering access to diverse meal options in all military installations. It is also now also apparent that despite the rumours peddled earlier, you are receiving and will continue to receive your full dues, without deductions from your MCA”, he affirmed.
Present during the visit were General Officer Commanding East Command Major General Luka Kutto, Kahawa Garrison Commander Brigadier Hussein Dida, Corps Commanders, Staff Officers, Kenya Army Sergeant Major and Service Members.
