Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hon. Soipan Tuya today chaired a consultative meeting with the Governor of Taita Taveta County, H.E. Dr. Andrew Mwadime, at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) to discuss the construction of a 10,000-seater stadium in Voi, Taita Taveta County.
The construction works are set to commence immediately under a partnership between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Taita Taveta County Government.
The stadium, the first of its kind in the county, will be built to both FIFA and CAF standards and will support football, athletics, and a host of other sports disciplines. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will oversee the construction works.
The Voi Stadium is expected to be completed within nine months and is anticipated to boost the county’s socio-economic growth, while also contributing significantly to sports and talent development in the region.
Present during the meeting were Defence Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Patrick Mariru, Head of Special Projects at Defence Headquarters Brigadier Titus Sokobe, and senior officials from both the Ministry of Defence and the County Government.
