The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Defence, Roselinda Soipan Tuya, on 19 December, 2025 visited Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed in Somalia under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). CS Tuya was accompanied by the Commander Kenya Army, Lt Gen David Keter, the Director of Military Intelligence, Maj Gen Abdlkadir Mohammed Burje, Chief of Operations Headquarter Kenya Army, Brigadier Charles Oduor along with other Senior Officers.

On arrival, the CS was received by the Commander AUSSOM Sector II, Brigadier Edward Banda. She was accorded a troop in line parade and later received a briefing on security and ongoing operations in the Sector.

Addressing the troops, CS Tuya commended their commitment and professionalism, describing their service as a high expression of patriotism that protects Kenya and the wider region by disrupting Al-Shabaab networks.

“Let us move forward with confidence and purpose. We will complete this mission with our heads held high, knowing we have pushed back terror and opened space for a better future. History will remember that when the region needed defenders, you stood up and did not flinch,” she said.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully support troops deployed in operation areas, emphasizing continued improvements in welfare and remuneration, as well as sustained investment in modern equipment. She noted that these measures are intended to boost morale, enhance readiness, and ensure the forces retain the capability needed to effectively carry out their mission.

CS Tuya wished the soldiers a restful festive season, expressing appreciation for their sacrifice and professionalism. She acknowledged the challenges of serving away from home during the holidays and commended them for their continued commitment to safeguarding peace and security despite those demands.
