DEFENCE CS JOINS NDC SYMBOLIC 12KM NGONG HILLS TREK

Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya on Tuesday, this week joined participants of the National Defence College (NDC) Course 28–2025/26 cohort for a symbolic leadership excursion at Ngong Hills in Kajiado County.

The 12-kilometre trek began at the Kenya Forest Service gate and concluded at the scenic Kona Baridi point. The walk is a core component of the NDC curriculum designed to cultivate strategic leadership traits through experiential learning.

Participants traversed the iconic seven hilltops of the Ngong range, embracing the challenge as part of their strategic leadership journey.

The event was led by NDC Deputy Commandant – Military, Major General Stephen Mutuku and Senior Directing Staff – Army, Major General Richard Mwanzia, alongside other faculty members.

In her remarks, CS Tuya applauded the participants for their dedication, urging them to continue leveraging their diverse strategic backgrounds to enrich their learning experience.

“This is a journey of transformation, both mental and physical. Let your shared experiences be the strength of this course,” she said.

Major General Mutuku commended the cohort’s enthusiasm and resilience, highlighting the importance of teamwork, cohesion, and endurance as pillars of effective leadership.

The physically demanding trek aimed to strengthen participants’ mental agility, leadership under pressure, and communication skills, qualities that are essential for navigating complex security environments at a strategic level.

As a premier regional and international institution, the National Defence College nurtures strategic thinkers and leaders capable of shaping and managing public policy.
