The Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC) celebrated its 21st graduation ceremony on 29 September 2025, at Embakasi Garrison in an event presided over by the Commander Kenya Air Force (KAF), Major General Bernard Waliaula.
A total of 416 graduands were conferred with qualifications, drawn from across the Services: 128 from the Kenya Army, 196 from the Kenya Air Force, and 92 from the Kenya Navy. The cohort included 10 engineering officers, a vital addition to the Services’ technical backbone.
In his address, Maj Gen Waliaula lauded the college for its relentless pursuit of its mission and vision, urging graduands to uphold excellence in their careers.
“I’m honoured to join you on this day to celebrate the academic achievements of our graduands. This graduation marks the last cohort for KNEC examinations and the beginning of our new journey with National Defence University-Kenya. Congratulations to the college for this amazing transition. I wish to assure you I will continue to offer the necessary support to achieve all your goals. To the graduands, make sure you maintain high discipline, integrity, and professionalism at your various levels,” said the Commander KAF.
“Notable achievements have also been realised in Research and Development. The College’s active participation in the Nairobi International Trade Fair and the 2024 African Public Service Day at the Kenya School of Government demonstrates its commitment to innovation. This is the surest way to support and sustain the Kenya Defence Forces’ industrialisation strategy,” added Maj Gen Waliaula.
The College Commandant, Brigadier Mohamed Ali, commended all who contributed to the success of the ceremony and expressed his confidence in the graduands’ competence. He further thanked the Kenya Defence Forces for the steadfast support extended to the institution.
The ceremony drew a distinguished audience, including the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Maj Gen Luka Kutto, Base Commander Moi Air Base, Brigadier Herbert Wafula, senior officers, service members, families, and friends who turned out in numbers to celebrate the new graduates.
