The Ministry of Defence (MoD) continues to support the Government’s national development agenda through the delivery of strategic infrastructure projects across the country. Leveraging the Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) engineering and project management expertise, the Ministry is implementing key projects in the health, sports and other critical sectors, delivering quality, durable and cost effective infrastructure that improves the lives of Kenyans.
To assess progress, Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru today inspected three ongoing Government projects in Murang’a and Kiambu counties: the Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Specialist Hospital in Murang’a, Thika Stadium and Githunguri Level V Hospital in Kiambu County.
Speaking during the inspections, Dr. Mariru reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to delivering strategic national projects on time and to the highest quality standards through professional engineering expertise and prudent project management.
At the Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Specialist Hospital, now nearly 50% complete, the Principal Secretary reviewed works that will transform the facility into a specialised referral and trauma centre. The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Defence in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the County Government of Murang’a and will enhance specialised healthcare and emergency services in the region.
At Thika Stadium, construction of the 10,000 seater facility has reached 20% completion and remains on course for completion before December 2026. Once complete, the stadium will provide a modern venue for sporting competitions, nurture talent, create employment and stimulate local economic growth.
The inspection tour concluded at Githunguri Level V Hospital, where construction is 95% complete. The main hospital block and supporting facilities, including the kitchen, laundry, water tower, sanitation systems and waiting bay, are expected to be completed within the next two weeks, significantly improving access to quality healthcare for residents of Githunguri and the wider Kiambu County.
Dr. Mariru noted that these projects demonstrate the Government’s commitment, under the leadership of H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, to expanding access to quality healthcare and modern public infrastructure. He reiterated that the Ministry of Defence will continue leveraging its engineering capability to deliver transformative projects that contribute to Kenya’s socioeconomic development.
