Education remains one of the most powerful instruments for national transformation, creating pathways for young people to achieve their aspirations while cultivating the future leaders, innovators, and responsible citizens needed to drive sustainable development. By investing in education, institutions not only empower individuals but also contribute to building resilient communities and strengthening the social foundations upon which national progress depends.
Demonstrating this commitment, the National Defence College (NDC) Kenya on 8 June 2026 reaffirmed its dedication to educational empowerment through a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative at Starehe Girls Centre. The visit underscored the College’s belief that access to quality education is essential in unlocking potential, promoting social mobility, and nurturing leadership among young people.
Representing the Commandant of the National Defence College, Lieutenant General Juma Mwinyikai, an NDC delegation visited the institution and was received by the Director of Starehe Girls Centre, Sister Jane Soita. During the engagement, the delegation highlighted the critical role education plays in advancing national development and fostering inclusive growth. They also interacted with two students currently sponsored by the College under its scholarship programme, who are in Form Three and Grade 10 respectively.
A cheque covering the students’ full scholarship support was formally presented to Sister Jane Soita, marking another significant milestone in the partnership between the National Defence College and Starehe Girls Centre. The gesture reflected the College’s continued investment in initiatives that expand educational opportunities for deserving learners and help them pursue their academic goals without financial barriers.
The NDC delegation noted that the sponsorship programme is designed not only to support academic achievement but also to nurture values of leadership, integrity, discipline, and service among beneficiaries. They emphasized that the initiative forms part of the College’s broader Corporate Social Investment agenda, which seeks to make a meaningful contribution to community development and social wellbeing.
Speaking during the occasion, Sister Jane Soita expressed gratitude for the sustained support, noting that partnerships of this nature play a vital role in enabling students to access quality education and realise their full potential. She observed that such collaborations create opportunities that can positively shape the future of individual learners and, by extension, the nation.
The visit reinforced the shared commitment of the National Defence College and Starehe Girls Centre to empowering young people through education. It also highlighted the importance of strategic social investments in creating opportunities, transforming lives, and contributing to sustainable national development through the advancement of knowledge, leadership, and human potential.
