In continuation of efforts to restore lasting peace, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) leadership under Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU), alongside multi-agency security representatives, convened a strategic Key Leadership Engagement at Kipsing Township. The high-level dialogue brought together local elders and community leaders spanning Samburu East, Isiolo North and Laikipia North sub-counties, as well as officials from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
The engagement primarily focused on addressing the underlying root causes of persistent insecurity, cattle rustling and banditry within the operational area. Recognizing that sustainable security requires inclusive local ownership, the session sought to establish strong, community-driven frameworks. These collaborative mechanisms aim to dismantle criminal networks, disrupt illicit supply lines and promote peaceful coexistence across inter-county borders.
During the deliberations, military officials provided community leaders with crucial operational perspectives, emphasizing how recurring insecurity stifles socioeconomic development. The session highlighted the destructive ripple effects of banditry on critical infrastructure, regional trade, access to basic services and overall national safety.
The consultative meeting underscored the vital partnership between local communities, traditional custodians of peace, and state security apparatuses. By directly involving elders and local administrators, the multi-agency team aims to strengthen early warning systems and enhance intelligence sharing channels.
KDF operating in the multi-agency framework, reiterated its firm commitment to maintaining peace, security and stability.
