General Officer Commanding Eastern Command (GOC EASTCOM), Major General Luka Kutto, on behalf of Commander Kenya Army, officially undertook a mission readiness assessment of KDF troops undergoing preparatory training for deployment in United Nations Missions, whereby upon confirmation, he officially closed the exercise at Kangaita training camp, Nanyuki .

The training was aimed at equipping the troops with the requisite knowledge and skills vital for UN mandate implementation.

In his address to troops, the GOC EASTCOM underscored the need for the troops to maintain high standards as they transition to mission areas.

“I am here to remind you that you are not only going out there as military personnel, but you are going out there as ambassadors of the Republic of Kenya. KDF is known for its professionalism in all peace keeping and peace enforcement missions. You are expected to maintain the standards,” he said.

Once deployed, the Contingent in conjunction with other allied troops will carry on with responsibilities handled by their predecessors which include Protection of Civilians (PoC), facilitating Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) of illegal armed groups and promotion of Security Sector Reforms (SSR) achievable through establishment and operationalisation of justice and security institutions in their Area of Responsibility.

During the assessment, the troops were able to demonstrate the training they have been undergoing during preparations to the task ahead of them. This, informed the GOCs confirmation for the troops readiness for deployment.
