A multi-agency medical outreach in Lamu has brought essential healthcare services closer to the community, with 323 residents receiving treatment, screening and medical advice.
The Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) medical outreach brought together the Kenya Navy medical team from Manda Trauma Centre, US Civil Affairs, Lamu County Healthcare Team and the Kenya Red Cross to provide healthcare services to residents.
KDF troops deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) provided security throughout the exercise, creating a safe environment for both medical teams and members of the community seeking treatment.
From the early hours, residents turned up in large numbers to access the services offered by the medical teams. The teams attended to a range of conditions, including upper respiratory tract infections, skin conditions, ear, nose and throat ailments, dental problems and urinary tract infections.
The outreach also provided screening and management of chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Patients received medication and guidance on lifestyle changes to help them manage their conditions beyond the medical camp.
Through the combined efforts of security agencies, healthcare providers and humanitarian partners, the outreach served hundreds of residents and strengthened the connection between the security forces and the community.
The initiative demonstrated how cooperation and shared expertise can deliver meaningful support to communities while reinforcing trust and confidence in the security sector.
