The Raila Amolo Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County, stands as a testament to Kenya’s rich national heritage and the enduring legacy of one of the country’s most influential figures. Its unveiling by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, marks a significant milestone in preserving and honouring an important chapter of Kenya’s history.

The construction of the Mausoleum was undertaken under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), following the Ministry’s takeover of the project in July 2026. Through the dedication, discipline and professionalism of the team involved, the project was completed in a record two months, reflecting the Ministry’s capacity to deliver projects entrusted to it with efficiency and commitment.

During the ceremony in honour of the fallen leader, KDF mounted a Guard of Honour during the unveiling ceremony, underscoring the national significance of the occasion and the important role played by KDF in supporting national programmes and preserving Kenya’s heritage.

The Odinga family expressed their appreciation to the team involved in the construction, with particular recognition of KDF for their dedication, discipline and commitment in delivering the project within the record two-month period. The family also welcomed Kenyans from across the country to visit the Mausoleum, regardless of their views, noting that the late Raila Odinga welcomed people from all walks of life and embraced diversity.

The President also accorded due recognition to the team involved in the construction for its efforts in delivering the project within the set timeframe.

The completion of the Mausoleum reflects KDF’s role in preserving Kenya’s national legacy and heritage. By delivering the project with dedication, discipline and professionalism, KDF has helped establish a lasting place of remembrance that will preserve an important chapter of Kenya’s history for generations to come.

The completion and unveiling of the Mausoleum further demonstrates the KDF’s commitment to safeguarding Kenya’s national heritage and preserving important chapters of the country’s history for future generations. It also highlights the dedication, professionalism and efficiency with which the Ministry continue to undertake projects in service to the nation.
