IMCTC OPEN’S FIVE-DAY TRAINING PROGRAM ON TERRORISM FINANCING AT VILLA ROSA KEMPINSKI KENYA

The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) officially opened a five-day capacity-building training program today at the Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi, focusing on the reduction of terrorism financing operations across its member states.

The program brings together security officials, financial intelligence units, law enforcement agencies, and regulatory experts from IMCTC member countries, with the aim of enhancing operational readiness and cross-border cooperation in tracking and dismantling financial networks that support terrorism.

In his opening address, General Officer Commanding, Central Command (CENTCOM) Maj Gen John Nkoimo emphasized the importance of a coordinated, whole-of-government approach, noting that terrorism financing is a complex threat that exploits vulnerabilities in traditional banking, mobile money platforms, and the dark web. He added that by integrating legal expertise, technology, and international cooperation, the training is expected to enhance national resilience and operational readiness.

The training builds on the success of the inaugural training held in April 2025, which empowered 22 Kenyan professionals from security and financial institutions. The current program aims to strengthen the capacity of institutions and individuals to detect and disrupt illicit financial flows that support terrorist activities.

Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al‑Moghedi, the Secretary‑General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), during the opening session of the training program in Nairobi. In his remarks, underscored the importance of coordinated, cross-border cooperation in dismantling terrorist financing networks. He emphasized the need to strengthen legal frameworks, build institutional capacity, and enhance the use of financial intelligence systems across member states.

The training program, which runs through August 8, includes workshops, expert panels, and simulation exercises to enhance detection, reporting, and inter-agency collaboration in combating terrorism financing.
