The Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) Karen formally commenced the Directing Staff Pre-Course Clinic for the incoming Course 41-2025/2026. The ceremony was presided over by the Commandant JCSC, Maj Gen Eric Kinuthia, accompanied by the Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor, Brig Chesire and Heads of Departments.

The clinic and induction program is designed for both the continuing and newly appointed Directing Staff from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Retired Reemployed Officers (RROs) and exchange Directing Staff from allied countries’ militaries of Burundi, Malawi, the Republic of South Africa, Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda.

The eight-day clinic aims to familiarize the Directing Staff with their instructional responsibilities and the routine operations of the College. The clinic includes Defence Instruction Techniques (DIT) training, facilitated by instructors from the Defence Forces School of Education and Languages (DEFSEL).

In his opening remarks, the Commandant welcomed the new Directing Staff and emphasized their vital role in developing future military leaders. He urged them to uphold professionalism, integrity and truth while fostering a culture of honest and constructive assessment. He concluded by encouraging commitment to mentorship, accurate reporting and principled leadership.

JCSC conducts Directing Staff clinics as part of the preparation of Directing Staff for their instructional duties. The clinics equip both new and continuing staff with the skills needed to uphold instructional excellence thus laying a strong foundation for shaping future leaders of the KDF and allied militaries.
