KDF AND PARTNER FORCES STRENGTHEN COOPERATION

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed under the Operation Amani Boni (OAB) multi-agency framework recently marked the successful conclusion of a three-week joint training programme at Kenya Navy Base Manda Bay, Lamu County.

The training, conducted in partnership with the United States and the United Kingdom, brought together personnel from the three forces in a coordinated effort aimed at strengthening operational cohesion, reinforcing collective readiness, and enhancing the effectiveness of security operations within the Boni Enclave and the wider coastal region.

Throughout the training period, participants undertook joint planning and field exercises designed to improve interoperability across complex and dynamic operational environments. The engagements enabled troops to operate seamlessly alongside partner forces while sharing best practices and operational experiences, enhancing unity of effort and reinforcing the credibility of the multi-agency security framework supporting stability in Lamu County.

Speaking during the closing address, Lieutenant Colonel Jeremiah Leakono, of KDF commended the participants for their professionalism and commitment. He noted that the training had enhanced operational readiness while reaffirming the value of trusted partnerships in delivering coordinated, lawful, and people-centred security outcomes under Operation Amani Boni.

The United States and United Kingdom delegations praised the high levels of discipline and cooperation demonstrated throughout the engagement, noting that joint training remains a critical enabler in addressing emerging and transnational security threats. They underscored the importance of continued joint engagements in strengthening interoperability and institutional trust.

The Kenya Defence Forces remain committed to working with trusted partners in reinforcing long-standing defence relationships. Such joint training initiatives continue to play a vital role in enhancing operational readiness, strengthening the legitimacy of security operations, and contributing to sustained stability and security in Lamu County and the wider region.
