Kenya Defence Forces troops operating under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) conducted a Civil–Military Cooperation outreach at Mokowe Arid Mixed Day and Boarding School in Lamu County. The engagement also brought together Kenya Navy personnel from Manda Base and United States Military Civil Affairs officers from Camp Simba, alongside representatives from the Kenya Red Cross, Lamu Women for Peace and officials from the County Government of Lamu.
The outreach centred on a career guidance and mentorship session themed Pathways to Service and Nation Building: Opportunities and the Role of KDF in Society.
Speaking during the outreach, CIMIC Officers from OAB, explained that the initiative forms part of the operation’s non-kinetic line of effort designed to foster trust, legitimacy and resilience within local communities. They noted that today’s students represent the next generation of leaders who will contribute to national security, public service and community advancement. They emphasized that the mandate of KDF extends beyond safeguarding territorial integrity to include structured community engagement that empowers citizens and supports sustainable peace.
United States Civil Affairs representatives from U.S Camp Simba highlighted that the outreach was intended to strengthen relations with the civilian population and promote a cooperative environment that supports ongoing security efforts. They stressed that education remains a powerful stabilizing factor, capable of equipping youth with the tools to resist exploitation by extremist elements while contributing positively to community development. The continued partnership between U.S. forces and KDF, they noted, demonstrates a unified commitment to peace, stability, and long-term development.
The school administration expressed appreciation for the collaborative engagement, acknowledging the positive impact of the mentorship session and the material support provided. The activity concluded with the distribution of essential supplies including sanitary towels and food items, reinforcing the shared commitment of security agencies and civil stakeholders to enhancing student welfare and strengthening community well-being.
