The 86 ARB and the School of Military Engineers (SOME) based in Isiolo, proudly represented the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) at the Meru Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) National Show running from 28th to 31st May 2025. The Unit participated as part of KDF’s ongoing efforts to support civil authority and engage with the public through outreach initiatives.
The combined efforts of 86ARB and SOME paid off during the award ceremony saw the Kenya Defence Forces emerge as the Overall Best Government Organisation in the Display and Presentation of Security Services category. The judges commended the KDF team for its outstanding professionalism, public engagement, and informative exhibits.
This outstanding performance won them the award that was received by Major Japheth Gichuru, Commanding Officer of 86ARB who expressed pride in his Unit’s performance and emphasised the importance of such events in strengthening the bond between the military and the civilian population.
During the event, the 86ARB thrilled spectators with a live demonstration of House Clearance Drills in the show ground arena. The display, designed to simulate urban operations, highlighted the Unit’s tactical precision, discipline, and professionalism.
The School of Military Engineers (SOME) also set up a static stand focused on Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) awareness. The exhibition provided critical information on the dangers posed by IEDs and the military’s role in detecting and mitigating such threats. It drew considerable interest from students, local leaders, and members of the public.
Their outstanding performance at the Meru National Show exemplifies the vital role of the military beyond the battlefield, serving, educating, and protecting the nation in every capacity.
