The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) joined Kenyans in commemorating this year’s National Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Ithookwe Stadium, Kitui County. The event was presided over by the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto.
This year’s celebration, themed “Transforming Lives Through Sustainable Energy Solutions,” was graced by H.E. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, and H.E. Maria Benvinda Levy, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique. The distinguished guests delivered goodwill messages honouring Kenya’s heroes and paid tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya. They also urged Africans to embrace the culture of honouring their heroes as a way of preserving their history and identity.
The Head of State, accompanied by the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, inspected a Guard of Honour mounted by the Kenya Defence Forces. The parade displayed KDF’s professionalism, discipline, and unity of purpose — a true reflection of their unwavering commitment to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and contribute to peace both at home and abroad. The ceremony also featured a march-past by KDF personnel and other security agencies, as well as an impressive aerial display by Kenya Air Force pilots.
In recognition of his lifelong service to the Republic, H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto posthumously conferred upon the late Premier the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (CGH), the nation’s highest honour.
KDF remains inspired by the spirit of Mashujaa — to serve with discipline, protect with honour, and stand ready whenever our nation calls. Our men and women in uniform, our veterans, and those who paid the ultimate price in defence of our country will forever remain our everyday Mashujaa.
In attendance were the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya; the Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru; Service Commanders; senior military and government officials; and Kenyans from all walks of life.
