KDF LEADS CHEMOLINGOT RESIDENTS IN MARKING WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Residents of Chemolingot joined hands with security personnel, students, civil society and government officials to mark World Environment Day through a town clean-up and environmental sensitisation campaign led by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) under Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU).

The event began with a procession through the town, bringing together the community in a show of unity and commitment to environmental responsibility. Participants swept streets, cleared drainage channels, cleared roadside bushes and collected litter before converging at Michuki Grounds for a public engagement forum.

Speaking on behalf of commander OMU, Brigadier Joel Arimi, Major Felix Mackenzi commended the community for its participation and emphasised the link between security and environmental sustainability.

“Environmental security is human security,” said Maj Mackenzi. “A clean and safe environment lays the foundation for peace, stability and long-term development. OMU remains committed to working with communities to promote such positive action.”

World Environment Day 2025 was themed “Ending Global Plastic Pollution”, a timely reminder of the environmental challenges affecting arid and semi-arid regions like Baringo.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge by stakeholders to maintain cleanliness and conserve the environment.
