KDF LEADS JOINT MEDICAL OUTREACH IN LAMU COUNTY

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) medical personnel from Kenya Navy Base Manda Bay conducted a medical outreach at the Kenya Red Cross Complex in Hindi, Lamu County. The exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Lamu County Government, the United States Army Civil Affairs from Camp Simba, the Operation Amani Boni medical team, the Kenya Red Cross Society and Safari Doctors, delivering unified health support to local communities.

The medical camp, in line with KDF’s sustained commitment to public health outreach and the enhancement of civil–military cooperation, delivered critical healthcare support to more than five hundred residents from Hindi and its environs. The locals enjoyed free general medical consultations, laboratory diagnostics, ophthalmic and dental care, nutrition services, physical medical assessments, and registration with the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Speaking at the Hindi Red Cross Complex, Lt Col (Dr) Kithome, of KDF, underscored that the core aim of the exercise was to extend essential preventive, promotive, and rehabilitative health services to communities across Lamu County. He reaffirmed that such efforts are part of KDF’s broader mandate to safeguard the well-being of local populations while enhancing stability in the region.

“This joint initiative builds on a long-standing partnership between KDF, civil authorities, and humanitarian organisations. Over the years, we have consistently worked together, speaking with one voice and taking collective action to advance a healthier, safer, and more promising future for the people of Lamu,” Said Lt Col (Dr) Kithome.

Speaking during the exercise, Sgt Jeremiah Bkwamn of the United States Army, highlighted that the joint medical outreach with KDF not only delivers critical healthcare services but also strengthens the connection between U.S. Army Civil Affairs teams and local communities across Lamu County.

“Through initiatives like this joint medical outreach, we are contributing to a safer and healthier Lamu. By combining military support, medical expertise, and community engagement, we aim to ensure residents not only have access to essential healthcare but also experience enhanced security and well-being in their daily lives,” Sgt Jeremiah Bkwamn explained.

Representatives from the Kenya Red Cross and local community leaders commended the medical outreach, noting that the combined efforts of the Lamu County Government, KDF, and partner organisations ensure residents in remote and hard-to-reach areas receive timely medical care. They emphasised that such sustained collaboration continues to strengthen community well-being and reinforces the shared commitment to a healthier, safer Lamu.
