A contingent of 20 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel, including 15 medics, is currently in Rwanda participating in the 5th East African Community (EAC) Armed Forces’ Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Week. The team is led by Colonel Alex Maingi, from Defence Headquarters.

The Kenya Defence Forces medical team, in collaboration with their counterparts from other EAC member countries Defence Forces, has since its arrival conducted successful outreach initiatives, offering essential healthcare services to local communities.

At Kibungo Referral Hospital in Ngoma District, the KDF team, led by Colonel (Dr) Eliud Muriithi, worked alongside EAC medical personnel, treating over 2,500 patients and conducting more than 100 surgeries. Common cases addressed included surgical consultations, general outpatient care, and minor surgical procedures.

The KDF medical team is composed of specialists in General Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Dentistry, Dermatology, ENT Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Nursing.

This joint initiative exemplifies the EAC’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and improving access to healthcare through united military efforts.
