On 1 September 2025, the Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula, received the Chief of Defence Forces Chess Tournament trophy from a team of 12 Kenya Air Force players under the patronage of the Base Commander Moi Air Base at the Kenya Air Force Headquarters in Eastleigh.
The Kenya Air Force delivered an exceptional performance. Out of 226 participants across the Kenya Defence Forces, the Service secured seven of the top ten awards. Lieutenant Brian Onduso from Laikipia Air Base won the overall individual title while Kenya Air Force was declared the best overall Service.
Speaking during the event, Major General Waliaula expressed his appreciation to the team for their outstanding effort and commitment.
“It’s a blessed day to start the month of September. I want to congratulate all of you for the amazing performance. All good things come in small bits. Chess is a thinking game that builds strategic thinking, critical analysis and leadership growth. May we all keep up the good job,” he said.
Also present were, the Base Commander MAB Brigadier Herbert Wafula, senior officers, officer and service members from KAF.
