On behalf of Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya, Principal Secretary for Defence Dr. Patrick Mariru chaired the 40th Meeting of the Sectoral Council on Cooperation in Defence Affairs at the East African Community (EAC) Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The five-day event convened Ministers of Defence from eight EAC Partner States; Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, and the United Republic of Tanzania.
Dr. Mariru, accompanied by EAC Secretary General Ms. Veronica Mueni Nduva, officially closed the meeting on Friday, 16th May 2025.
Deliberations centered on strategic issues aimed at strengthening regional peace, security, and integration among the Partner States.
The Kenyan delegation included Major General Fred Leuria, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Plans, Doctrine, and Training (ACDF OPD&T), alongside officials from the Ministry of Defence (both military and civilian), the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the State Department for East African Community, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
