The Kenya Navy held a two-day Inter-Units Taekwondo Championship from 26–27 November 2025 at the Kenya Navy Base (KNB) Mtongwe in Mombasa County. The event was officially opened by Brigadier William Kiprotich and later closed by Colonel Lopeyok Epetet both of KDF
The event brought together talented taekwondo practitioners from various Kenya Navy units, all competing for an opportunity to secure a place in the elite team that will represent the service in the Bora Cup Championship, scheduled for March 2026.
In his opening remarks, Brigadier Kiprotich underscored the importance of sports as an integral pillar of military readiness, discipline and cohesion.
“Today’s gathering is more than a sporting event, it is a demonstration of the discipline, strength and unity that define the Kenya Navy. Taekwondo is a martial art that teaches us far more than physical skill. It reminds us of the power of focus, the value of self-control and the essence of respect, qualities that mirror the demands of our service as sailors,” he noted.
He further urged all practitioners to pursue excellence, embrace camaraderie and uphold esprit de corps.
While presiding over the closing ceremony, Colonel Epetet, congratulated the winners for their outstanding performance and competitive spirit.
“I want to commend all the practitioners who took part in this championship. Every kick, every punch and every point earned was not just an athletic effort, it was a testament to the physical readiness and mental resilience of our service personnel. You have upheld the values of sportsmanship, teamwork and respect,” Colonel Epetet said.
The championship served a dual purpose, identifying and nurturing promising practitioners and enhancing combat-fitness levels within the service. Over the course of the competition, practitioners engaged in various taekwondo categories including Poomsae (patterns), Kyorugi (sparring) and specialized demonstrations, where competitors showcased precision, discipline, controlled power and tactical awareness.
