KENYAN PEACEKEEPERS IN DRC PASS RIGOROUS UN OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS TEST

The Kenyan Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF), serving under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), has successfully completed a rigorous five-day Operational Effectiveness Inspection (OEI) from 4th to 8th August 2025, earning high praise for their professionalism and readiness.

The inspection, conducted by a MONUSCO assessment team, tested the contingent’s capabilities through both theoretical and practical sessions. Evaluations covered quick reaction functions such as rapid response to threat attacks, maintenance of military discipline, and strict adherence to MONUSCO and United Nations guidelines and procedures.

Led by the Deputy Chief Evaluator, Major Uliah Shahzad Rafa, the inspection team noted that the Kenyan troops demonstrated “mission-ready” standards across all assessed areas.

“We are impressed by the professionalism, discipline, and adaptability you have all displayed. Your performance reflects a high level of training and preparedness that is essential in the primary task of protecting civilians, and we are certain that you will continue to work hard towards excellence,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by his colleagues, Major Fadwa Mohamed Elsayed and Major Bertrand Dominique Oudiane both of whom also took part in the rigorous inspection.

On his part, the KENQRF 4 Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Seda, acknowledged the positive review and promised to put more effort into tightening any loose ends.

“Such external assessment is crucial as it focuses a third eye on areas that would otherwise escape our own evaluation. As such, we become better in line with the Kaizen philosophy,” he noted.

The Kenyan Quick Reaction Force plays a vital role in MONUSCO’s mandate to protect civilians and support stabilization efforts in the DRC, often responding to emergencies and high-threat situations. Their strong performance in the OEI reaffirms their ability to meet these challenges as they work hand in hand with the DRC Security Officers, the local citizenry as well as other troops within MONUSCO.
