MAB CONCLUDES INTER WINGS SPORTS TOURNAMENT

The annual Inter Wings Basketball and Volleyball Tournament at Moi Air Base (MAB) came to a successful end on 1st May 2025. The event, held at Sina Makosa Grounds and the MAB Gymnasium, aims to promote physical fitness, competitive spirit, and esprit de corps among officers, airmen, and airwomen at the base.

During the tournament, wings were grouped into two teams for both men’s and women’s categories, competing in volleyball and basketball.

In the women’s basketball category, the Kenya Air Force Training Wing (KTW) emerged as the champions, followed by Headquarter Wing (HQW), and Technical Wing (TW) took third place.

In the men’s basketball competition, Technical Wing (TW) claimed victory, with HQW finishing second and the Technical Maintenance Group (TMG) securing third place.

In women’s volleyball, Headquarter Wing (HQW) emerged the winners, Logs COMD were runners-up, and TW came in third.

In the men’s volleyball competition, Flying Wing clinched first place, followed by the Technical Maintenance Group (TMG).

Individual awards were also presented during the event. Senior Private Prince Wandera was named the best player in men’s basketball, while Senior Private Daisy Arodi received top honors in women’s basketball. In volleyball, Corporal Anthony Tonui and Senior Private Nancy Mara were recognized as the best players in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

While presiding over the closing ceremony, MAB Base Commander Brigadier Bernard Oluoch congratulated the players for their superb performance and the high level of sportsmanship displayed.

“Allow me to express my deep appreciation to all the Moi Air Base players who, over the years, have performed exceedingly well in both local and international events, thereby earning our Base, the Kenya Air Force, the Kenya Defence Forces, and the country admiration and glory worldwide,” he stated.

He also extended his gratitude to the tournament sponsors and supporters.

“I wish to express my gratitude to our esteemed sponsors KCB and DEFWES, and to all who have supported us both materially and morally. I also appreciate the coaches, trainers, and players who continue to dedicate their time to sports,” he added.

The competition also served as a talent search to form formidable teams that will represent MAB in the upcoming Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) Bora Cup Challenge.

Also in attendance was the guest of honor, ASP David Lungaho, who is the Kenya Volleyball Technical Director and a former coach of the Malkia Strikers, senior officers, officers, service members, and corporate sponsors.
