MISSION READY: KDF PEACEKEEPERS SHARPEN PROTECTIVE MOBILITY AND DEFENSIVE CAPABILITIES

Operational readiness, tactical proficiency and force protection remain critical to safeguarding peacekeepers operating in volatile security environments. In eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), persistent threats from illegal armed groups demand constant vigilance, coordinated responses and mission-focused training.

Kenya’s 4th Signal Company (KENSIG 4), deployed under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), continues to enhance its defensive capabilities to safeguard UN personnel, installations and mission assets.

As part of operational preparedness, the Company’s Base Defence Platoon conducted a two-day exercise from 25 to 26 October 2026, focusing on Very Important Person (VIP) protection and protected mobility drills.

The training sharpened tactical coordination, communication and rapid response capabilities, with personnel rehearsing Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with the Mission Rules of Engagement (ROEs).

Tasked with securing the MONUSCO Force Headquarters, the platoon refined its ability to protect key personnel, execute coordinated defensive manoeuvres and respond effectively to emerging threats while maintaining operational discipline.

The exercise comes amid persistent security threats in eastern DRC, where attacks on convoys and hostile activities by illegal armed groups continue to pose risks to peacekeeping personnel and mission operations.

Through continuous tactical training and operational preparedness, KENSIG 4 remains committed to safeguarding UN personnel and facilities, sustaining critical communication support and contributing to MONUSCO’s mandate of promoting peace and stability in the DRC.
