MULTI-AGENCY TEAMS STRENGTHEN PEACE EFFORTS ACROSS NORTH RIFT

Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) has in recent days intensified its engagements across Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties, bringing together security agencies and community leaders to consolidate the gains made in peace and stability.

Led by Commander OMU, Brigadier Alex Kiraguri, the multi-agency team comprising the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Police Service (NPS), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), National Intelligence Service (NIS) and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) engaged local leaders and communities in a series of forums aimed at deepening collaboration and trust.

In Chemolingot, Baringo County, Chiefs and Sub-Chiefs from Tiaty East Sub-County joined the security team at the Multi-Agency Command Centre for a consultative meeting. The discussions focused on sustaining recent gains, particularly the increased surrender of illegal firearms, improved school attendance, and the role of civic sensitization in promoting peace.

The engagements extended to Elgeyo Marakwet, where a high-level security meeting was held in Tot to review progress in disarmament, livestock recovery, and community protection. In Baringo, the team also visited Kolowa Police Station and Market, assessing security infrastructure while interacting with residents to foster confidence and trust.

The activities culminated in a Chief’s Baraza at Barpello, where local leaders and residents reaffirmed their support for the ongoing efforts. Communities expressed optimism, particularly with emerging plans to rehabilitate and reintegrate individuals who voluntarily surrender weapons.

Speaking during the series of engagements, Brigadier Kiraguri lauded the collaborative spirit between communities and security agencies, noting:

“The progress we are witnessing today is the result of partnership and trust. As we continue to work together, we are confident that these efforts will deliver lasting peace for the people of this region.”

The engagements reflect growing momentum in the North Rift, with stronger inter-agency coordination and community involvement driving the region steadily towards sustainable peace and development.
