NEW FOUNDATION, RENEWED FAITH

NEW FOUNDATION, RENEWED FAITH

In a powerful demonstration of commitment to the welfare of service personnel and their families, the Kenya Navy marked a significant milestone with the laying of a commemoration stone for the Anglican Church, Emmanuel Chapel at Lieutenant Colonel Kimaro Estate in Mtongwe, Mombasa County. The ceremony, presided over by Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, alongside Kenya Defence Forces Principal Chaplain, Colonel Reverend Granton Mwanyanya, symbolized more than the beginning of a physical structure—it reflected the enduring spiritual foundation of the military community.

The establishment of the chapel underscores the Kenya Navy’s recognition of faith as a vital pillar in the holistic well-being of its personnel. Designed as a sanctuary for worship, reflection, and spiritual renewal, Emmanuel Chapel is set to serve as a cornerstone for nurturing resilience, unity, and moral strength among service members and their families.

Beyond the laying of the foundation stone, the occasion also highlighted the strengthening of the human fabric within the military through the opening of the Anglican Church Military Episcopate Women Conference. The forum brought together women and spouses from across the Kenya Defence Forces, creating a platform for empowerment, mentorship, and shared experiences grounded in faith.

In his keynote address, Major General Otieno emphasized the critical role of such initiatives in building resilience among military families. He noted that the conference equips participants with essential life skills while fostering peer support networks that reinforce the spiritual anchorage of the defence community.

Addressing the women and spouses, he paid tribute to their unwavering strength and sacrifice, noting that their role in sustaining the morale and stability of military families remains invaluable. He underscored the enduring power of faith as both shield and source of courage in navigating the unique challenges of military life.

The conference theme, “Women Rising in Faith and Resilience,” echoed throughout the event as a call to steadfastness and renewal. Major General Otieno reminded participants that faith provides strength beyond human limitations, affirming that even in life’s most testing moments, resilience is forged and hope sustained.

As the foundation stone was laid, it marked not just the beginning of a place of worship, but the reaffirmation of a deeper commitment: to build a military community grounded in faith, strengthened by resilience, and united in purpose.
