Marksmanship competitions provide an important platform for sharpening shooting skills, promoting professional excellence, and strengthening collaboration among security agencies. By bringing together personnel from different institutions, such events foster knowledge exchange, healthy competition, and mutual learning, ultimately enhancing operational effectiveness and professional standards.
The Defence Forces Rifle Association (DEFRA) Full Bore Shooting Team showcased these qualities during the Inspector General of Police Championship held at the KDF Range, Laikipia, from 3 to 6 June 2026.
The championship brought together 72 skilled shooters from DEFRA and the National Police Service, including participants from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kenya Prisons Service (KPS), and Administration Police Service (APS). Competitors tested their abilities under challenging conditions that required precise judgement of wind, elevation, and mirage.
DEFRA emerged among the top performers, winning three trophies across different categories. Sergeant Nicholas Lengorien clinched the gold medal in the X-pert (X) Class, while Corporal Eston Mwangi of 12 Engineers Battalion, a junior team member, secured the silver medal in the Immediate (O) Class. Warrant Officer Class Two Joyce Chebii was named Best Lady Shooter of the championship.
Beyond the accolades, the team’s success reflected the value of continuous training, discipline, and professional engagement with fellow shooters from across the security sector. The championship reinforced the importance of competitive platforms in developing talent, strengthening inter-agency bonds, and advancing excellence in marksmanship.
