Professional military education is essential in developing competent leaders capable of serving effectively in command, staff, and operational roles. Through advanced training, officers acquire the skills and expertise needed to meet emerging security challenges and lead with excellence.
This commitment to excellence was demonstrated during the graduation of Course 10 at the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) Kinanira in Bujumbura, Burundi, held on 11 June 2026. The course equips officers with the knowledge and skills required to undertake demanding command, staff, and operational responsibilities within their respective armed forces.
The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Chief of Defence Forces of the Burundi National Defence Force (BNDF) and attended by several general and senior officers, including the Commandant Joint Command and Staff College Karen, Major General Eric Kinuthia.
Among the graduates were two officers from the Kenya Defence Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Shukri Abdi and Major William Masha, who successfully completed the programme alongside officers from allied partner nations.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdi distinguished himself during the course and was recognised as the Best Overall Student Officer, reflecting the high standards of professionalism and academic excellence upheld by the Kenya Defence Forces.
In addition, Colonel Vincent Rono was honoured as the Best Directing Staff, further underscoring the contribution of KDF personnel to professional military education and leadership development within the region.
The achievements recorded by the Kenyan officers highlighted the value of continuous professional development in nurturing capable leaders and strengthening military effectiveness across the region.
