The Chief of Inspectorate at the Defence Headquarters, Brig Lawrence Ntoyai, led a delegation from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Directorate of Oversight, Compliance and Accountability (DOCA) on an operational readiness assessment of KDF troops deployed under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). The assessment is part of DOCA’s mandate to ensure military operations remain aligned with KDF legal, policy, and ethical frameworks.
The delegation visited all KDF Bases under AUSSOM. In their closing visit, the delegation visited Kismayo, where they were received by the AUSSOM-KDF Sector II Commander, Brig Edward Banda. They were briefed on personnel and equipment readiness, infrastructure, capacity development, troop welfare, and medical support. Thereafter, they were taken on an assessment walk-around to the various departments within the camp.
Brig Ntoyai emphasized the importance of these periodic assessments.
“The Directorate is mandated to conduct assessments to safeguard professional standards and adherence to international legal norms. It is a way of identifying areas where KDF can improve and enhance operational readiness,” he said. He also wished the KDF-AUSSOM I contingent success in the remainder of their tour of duty.
The visit highlights DOCA’s commitment to fostering a culture of accountability, integrity, and compliance within the KDF.
