The School of Infantry (SOI), in collaboration with the Kenya Air Force, successfully conducted an aerial seedballing (“seed bombing”) exercise within the SOI military training area in Isiolo County.
A total of 500,000 seedballs comprising assorted Acacia species were dispersed over areas with reduced vegetation cover. This innovative approach complements conventional tree planting by enabling restoration of hard-to-reach terrain and enhancing tree growing efforts in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs).
The exercise forms part of the Kenya Defence Forces’ contribution to the national 15 Billion Tree Growing Initiative. It also aligns with ongoing tree growing activities across KDF units following the onset of the long rains, and builds momentum towards the International Day of Forests to be marked on 21st March.
The Kenya Defence Forces remains steadfast in advancing Environmental Security, in line with the Environmental Soldier Programme and its guiding principle of Total National Defence.
