Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and deployed at Hoosingo marked the Christmas season through a community outreach initiative with residents of Hoosingo township. The activity was conducted in the spirit of the festive season and aimed at strengthening relations between the troops and the local community.
Led by Captain Edward Leperes, the soldiers engaged residents to better understand their immediate needs. During the exercise, the troops distributed fresh water and food items to members of the community. The provision of water was particularly timely, as the region continues to experience prolonged drought conditions that have strained access to basic resources, leaving many households affected by persistent water shortages.
Following the distribution, the troops held an engagement session with community leaders and local authorities. Discussions focused on security, infrastructure development, and ways of improving community health. The forum provided an opportunity for open dialogue and the exchange of ideas on shared challenges and priorities.
Community representatives, led by Hoosingo District Officer Mr Noor Gure, shared their views and concerns. On behalf of the residents, Mr Gure expressed appreciation to the KDF AUSSOM troops for their support and continued goodwill towards the community.
The outreach activity demonstrated the mission’s commitment to supporting civilian populations and addressing humanitarian needs alongside security operations within its area of responsibility. It also underscored the importance of cooperation between security forces and local communities in promoting stability.
