STAKEHOLDERS CONVENE TO ADDRESS INSECURITY IN BARINGO

In a joint effort to tackle insecurity along the Marigat-Chemolingot highway, three pivotal meetings were held in Loruk, Chesirimion and Nginyang, bringing together key stakeholders in the region. The forums were attended by National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) led by the Deputy County Commissioner for Tiaty Central, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel, local elders, members of the clergy, and area residents.

The meetings were convened in response to a surge in cattle theft and highway banditry that has disrupted peace and mobility along the strategic highway. Participants discussed viable ways to forge a lasting solution to the menace, with a call for enhanced collaboration between the community and security agencies.

Speaking during the forums, Maj Jairus Kakai, of Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU), conveyed the message of the Commander OMU, Brigadier Joel Arimi. He underscored the critical need for peace to pave the way for meaningful development in the region. Maj Kakai affirmed KDF’s unwavering commitment, alongside other OMU stakeholders, to restore normalcy and support initiatives aimed at ending criminal activities in the area.

“There can be no development without peace. We urge all residents to work closely with us in identifying and isolating elements intent on destabilizing the region,” said Maj Kakai.

Local leaders and elders echoed the sentiments, emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility. The Deputy County Commissioner, Mr Aaron Omaset, reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring that law and order prevail, and called on residents to volunteer information that could lead to the apprehension of criminal elements.

The meetings concluded with a renewed pledge from all present to champion peace, unity, and cooperation for the betterment of Baringo County.
