Defence diplomacy remains an important instrument for strengthening international partnerships, developing military capabilities and advancing shared security interests. Through sustained engagement with strategic partners, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) continues to expand opportunities for professional military development, knowledge exchange and institutional capacity building in response to an increasingly complex global security environment.
The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, hosted Kenya’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Peter Njiru, at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi on 10 August 2026, for discussions aimed at strengthening Kenya–Pakistan defence relations and advancing areas of mutual strategic interest.
During the engagement, the two leaders reviewed existing defence cooperation and explored opportunities to deepen collaboration between the Kenya Defence Forces and the Pakistan Armed Forces. Their discussions focused on shared security priorities, professional military development and the expansion of training opportunities designed to enhance operational capabilities and institutional effectiveness.
Military training emerged as a key area of cooperation, with both sides recognising the value of sustained professional exchanges in developing specialised competencies, strengthening leadership capacity and exposing personnel to diverse operational experiences and best practices.
Lieutenant General (Rtd) Njiru commended the Kenya Defence Forces for its contribution to strengthening diplomatic and defence relations between Kenya and Pakistan. He expressed optimism that continued engagement would further broaden cooperation between the two countries and contribute to the advancement of shared security objectives.
The meeting highlighted the complementary roles of military diplomacy and Kenya’s diplomatic missions in advancing national security interests abroad. Strong coordination between defence institutions and diplomatic representatives provides an important platform for identifying strategic opportunities, strengthening partnerships and translating bilateral relations into tangible capacity-building outcomes.
Through sustained defence engagements and international partnerships, the KDF continues to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance professional military development and build relationships that support a modern, agile and mission-ready force capable of responding effectively to evolving security challenges.
