The Ministry of Defence (MoD) continues to reaffirm Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding defence and security cooperation with the Republic of Korea (RoK), following a bilateral engagement between Defence Principal Secretary, Dr. Patrick Mariru and the Vice Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Lee Doo-hee, in Seoul, Korea.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both nations to deliberate on areas of mutual interest and explore avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in defence policy, defence industry collaboration, logistics support, military capability development, technology and innovation, as well as specialised training and capacity building for military personnel.
The discussions also focused on the growing role of Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain (REAIM), with both countries emphasizing the importance of strengthened international cooperation in ensuring the responsible development, governance and application of emerging defence technologies.
During the engagement, Dr Mariru highlighted Kenya’s readiness to host the upcoming global REAIM engagement in Nairobi in April 2027, while exploring opportunities for further collaboration with the Republic of Korea in technology, innovation and military technological readiness.
Further the discussions reaffirmed the strong and mutually beneficial partnership between Kenya and the Republic of Korea, with both countries expressing their commitment to deepening mutual trust, strengthening strategic cooperation and advancing innovative solutions to emerging defence and security challenges.
