The Kenya Defence Forces’ tradition of blending leadership with camaraderie was on full display during the General Officers’ Golf Reunion, held recently at the Moi Air Base Golf Course. The event reaffirmed the value of informal engagement among senior military leadership.
Now in its third season, the General and Flag Officers Golf Tournament continues to evolve into a hallmark event within military circles. The tournament brought together serving and retired general and senior officers as well as other officers, alongside distinguished civilian golfers, creating a unique platform where strategic leadership, professional networking, and sport intersect.
This year’s edition recorded a significant milestone, attracting over 130 participants, including General Officers—both serving and retired who included the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, General (Rtd) Robert Kibochi, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Jackson Waweru, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Daniel Opande, and Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a among others. Their presence underscored the event’s growing standing and its role as a unifying forum for military leaders.
Beyond the fairways, the tournament served as a reflection of military values—teamwork, discipline, and strategic thinking—translated into a relaxed, competitive environment. Participants demonstrated exceptional skill across categories, with Dr. Ayub Shiteswa claiming the Division A Men title, Major Lucia Mwaniki securing the Division A Ladies category, and Mr. David Ngige emerging as the Senior Winner. Major Elvis Murunga stood out as the overall winner, marking a highlight in a field of accomplished competitors.
The event also featured recognition and appreciation for its organizers and participants. Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula and the Patron of the Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association, Major General Eric Kinuthia, presided over the awards ceremony. In his remarks, Major General Waliaula thanked the CDF for supporting the initiative and acknowledged the collective effort behind its success. He emphasized the broader significance of the tournament, noting that such gatherings play a vital role in strengthening esprit de corps, fostering professional relationships, and reinforcing unity among senior officers.
As the tournament continues to gain momentum, it has firmly established itself as more than just a sporting event. It stands as a meaningful tradition—one that celebrates leadership, nurtures cohesion, and reinforces the enduring bonds forged in service, both on and off the course.
