By investing in its people, the Kenya Navy continues to cultivate a disciplined, motivated and mission-ready force prepared to safeguard Kenya’s maritime interests.
This commitment was reinforced on 31 July 2026 when the Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, presided over the second biannual Commander Kenya Navy Divisions at Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe. The event brought together personnel from across the Service for a formal parade and departmental forum designed to strengthen communication, review institutional priorities and provide an avenue for direct engagement between leadership and the rank and file.
The forum focused on issues central to the welfare and professional development of Kenya Navy personnel, including the annual calendar of events, the cascading of performance contracts and broader institutional priorities. It also created an opportunity for open dialogue, enabling personnel to share perspectives while reaffirming the Service’s collective focus on operational readiness, maritime security and professional excellence.
Addressing the gathering, Major General Otieno underscored the importance of maintaining a highly capable force able to respond effectively to the evolving maritime security environment. He noted that the Kenya Navy continues to enhance its operational effectiveness through sustained modernization, improved logistics, advanced training and increased participation in joint operations, all aimed at strengthening the Service’s readiness to protect Kenya’s maritime domain.
The Commander also commended personnel for their professionalism, dedication and unwavering commitment to national service. He encouraged them to remain steadfast in upholding the Kenya Navy’s core values, emphasizing that discipline, unity and professionalism remain the foundation upon which operational success is achieved.
The event also celebrated excellence within the Service through the presentation of medals to personnel recognised for long, exemplary and dedicated service, as well as outstanding conduct. In addition, formations and individuals who have championed environmental conservation initiatives were honoured for promoting clean, sustainable and environmentally responsible military establishments, demonstrating that operational excellence extends beyond the battlefield to responsible stewardship of the environment.
The biannual Commander Kenya Navy Divisions continues to serve as an important platform for strengthening leadership engagement, reinforcing institutional values and recognising outstanding performance.
