SUPPORTING PEACE, BUILDING FUTURES ALONG THE LAPSSET CORRIDOR

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) continue to play a vital role in supporting peace, stability and socio-economic transformation through sustained Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives along the LAPSSET corridor. By fostering strong partnerships with local communities and government agencies, KDF personnel are helping to build public trust, strengthen collaborative security frameworks and create an enabling environment for development.

In line with this commitment, personnel from 10 Engineers Battalion stationed at Bura on LAPSSET security duties conducted a community and Key Leadership Engagement in Masabubu Village, Bura East Sub-County, Garissa County. The engagement was carried out in collaboration with National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO).

The forum brought together security agencies, local leaders and members of the community to deliberate on prevailing security concerns affecting the area, while also assessing the continued implementation of peace and security initiatives within the region. The discussions underscored the importance of cooperation between residents and security stakeholders in safeguarding critical infrastructure and sustaining stability along the strategic LAPSSET corridor.

As part of the outreach, the exercise also featured a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activity during which residents received foodstuffs and medical supplies. The humanitarian support reflected KDF’s people-centred approach to security operations, aimed at improving community welfare while strengthening relations with the local population.

Speaking during the engagement, KDF commanders together with Deputy County Commissioner Mr Sammy Nyaga commended residents for their continued collaboration and support towards security efforts in the region. They noted that the LAPSSET project remains a key driver of socio-economic growth, with the potential to transform livelihoods through improved infrastructure, trade opportunities and enhanced connectivity.

The leaders emphasized that lasting peace and sustainable development can only be achieved through collective responsibility, mutual trust and continuous engagement between communities and security agencies.

The forum concluded with a renewed commitment by both the community and security stakeholders to continue working together in promoting peace, stability and development, reaffirming the critical role of partnership in securing the future of the LAPSSET corridor and the broader region.
