Deputy Commander United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM) Lieutenant General J. Brennan on 6 February 2026 paid a courtesy visit to Kenya Navy Base Manda as part of ongoing engagements to strengthen military and operational cooperation and readiness.
Upon arrival at the Base, Lt Gen Brennan was received by the Deputy Base Commander Colonel Anthony Gachagua alongside United States Army officers at Camp Simba. He was thereafter accorded a situational and operational brief outlining ongoing activities within the area of responsibility.
The Deputy Commander later toured key establishments within the base, including the Combined Joint Inter-Agency Task Force (CJIATF) where he paid a courtesy call on the Operation Amani Boni (OAB) Commander, Brigadier General Meshak Kishoyian.
At the CJIATF Headquarters, Lt Gen Brennan received a comprehensive brief on the prevailing security situation in Lamu County and the multi-agency operations being undertaken under OAB. The briefing highlighted joint initiatives focused on sustaining stability and addressing emerging security concerns across the region.
In his remarks, USAFRICOM Deputy Commander commended the close cooperation between the Kenya Defence Forces and the United States Army at Camp Simba, noting that the partnership has been instrumental in neutralising threats and maintaining peace and security.
Speaking during the meeting l, Brig Gen Kishoyian expressed appreciation for the continued support from the United States Army, particularly in training and joint operational engagements, observing that the collaboration has enhanced operational effectiveness and strengthened the capacity of forces operating within the theatre.
The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between the Kenya Defence Forces and USAFRICOM, underscoring the importance of sustained collaboration in enhancing troop readiness, countering insurgent threats, and boosting morale among deployed personnel.
