The Kenya Air Force has taken an important step in reinforcing national air power following the graduation of eight fixed-wing pilots from the Aviation Centre of Excellence (ACE), marking a vital boost to the country’s operational capability.
The ceremony, held on 30 April 2026 at Laikipia Air Base, underscored the Air Force’s continued investment in professional training and mission readiness. Presiding over the event, Major General Bernard Waliaula hailed the achievement as a testament to discipline, resilience, and the enduring commitment to excellence within the service.
The newly commissioned pilots completed the rigorous Ab-initio Course ACE 05, a comprehensive training programme that began in March 2022. The course combined intensive ground instruction with progressive flying phases designed to cultivate technical mastery, operational endurance, and critical decision-making under pressure—core attributes for modern air operations.
Addressing the graduands, Maj Gen Waliaula emphasized the weight of responsibility that accompanies the pilot’s brevet, noting that aviation demands uncompromising standards of competence and integrity. He urged the officers to uphold the highest levels of airmanship, discipline, and professionalism as they transition into active operational roles.
The Commander further highlighted the importance of teamwork and adherence to core military values, noting that effective air operations rely not only on individual skill but also on cohesive unit performance. He also recognized the critical contributions of the training ecosystem, commending the ACE leadership, instructors, support staff, and families whose support underpins the success of such demanding programmes.
The Commandant ACE Colonel Douglas Muthuri, affirmed the operational readiness of the graduates, expressing confidence in their ability to integrate seamlessly into frontline squadrons and contribute meaningfully to mission execution.
The ceremony drew attendance from senior leadership from across Kenya Air Force Bases, alongside officers, service members, and families.
Beyond celebrating individual achievement, the graduation signals a broader strategic milestone for the Kenya Air Force. As regional security dynamics evolve, the addition of highly trained pilots enhances the Air Force’s capacity to safeguard Kenya’s sovereign airspace while supporting national and regional stability initiatives.
Ultimately, the wings awarded on this day symbolize more than qualification—they represent a renewed commitment to vigilance, precision, and service in the defense of the nation.
