Young people remain central to Kenya’s pursuit of lasting peace, national unity and sustainable development. By investing in their talents, creativity and leadership, the Government continues to strengthen community resilience while creating opportunities for youth to become positive agents of change. The creative arts, particularly music, have emerged as powerful tools for inspiring social transformation, promoting peaceful coexistence and amplifying messages that foster national cohesion.
Advancing this vision, the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya, visited Eldume in Baringo County, where she engaged with young people and reaffirmed the Government’s resolve to empower the youth as partners in building peaceful, secure and prosperous communities.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Tuya encouraged young people to harness their artistic talents by using music as a vehicle for positive influence. She observed that music possesses the unique ability to shape attitudes, inspire hope and unite communities across social and cultural divides.
She challenged aspiring artists to produce compositions that champion peace, responsible citizenship, patriotism and resilience against harmful influences, emphasizing that their voices can inspire meaningful change within society.
The Cabinet Secretary underscored the important contribution of the creative industry in shaping societal values, noting that artistic expression extends beyond entertainment to become a catalyst for dialogue, reconciliation and community cohesion. She urged the youth to embrace their creativity as a tool for strengthening harmony and fostering a culture of mutual respect and understanding.
Beyond youth empowerment, Hon. Tuya highlighted the importance of environmental conservation as a shared responsibility for present and future generations. She called upon communities to safeguard the ecological integrity of Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria, describing the two water bodies as nationally significant natural assets that support biodiversity, tourism, livelihoods and regional economic growth.
She emphasized that preserving these ecosystems is essential for enhancing climate resilience, sustaining local livelihoods and protecting Kenya’s natural heritage. The Cabinet Secretary encouraged residents to actively participate in conservation initiatives and to embrace responsible environmental practices that will ensure the continued productivity and sustainability of the region’s natural resources.
The engagement reinforced the Government’s integrated approach to peacebuilding by linking youth empowerment, environmental stewardship and community participation.
