On 30 January 2026, the Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Brigadier William Kiprotich officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Anglican Church, Emmanuel Chapel at Lieutenant Colonel Kimaro Estate in Mtongwe, Mombasa County.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, dedication and consecration of the church was conducted by the Principal Chaplain of the Kenya Defence Forces, Colonel Reverend Granton Mwanyanya, with assistance from Major Reverend Isaac Mbogo, Chaplain of Kenya Navy Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Mtongwe.
In his address to the faithful, Brigadier Kiprotich noted that the construction of the church marks an important milestone in enhancing spiritual well-being for Kenya Navy personnel and their families while strengthening ties between the Navy and the broader faith community.
The initiative reflects the Navy’s dedication to the holistic welfare of its personnel, ensuring that both serving members and their dependents have access to a designated place of worship.
In attendance were senior officers, officers, service members and their families.
