HEALTHY COMMUNITIES, STRONGER PARTNERSHIPS: MEDICAL OUTREACH ADVANCES WELL-BEING

Access to quality healthcare remains a vital pillar of resilient communities, particularly in remote and underserved regions where medical services are often limited. Through sustained Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) continues to complement national development efforts by partnering with healthcare institutions to improve the well-being of communities while fostering trust and cooperation in areas affected by insecurity.

As part of these efforts, the Kenya Defence Forces, in partnership with Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, Baringo Sub-County and Medical Missions Africa (MEMA), successfully conducted a three-day medical outreach programme in Kiplanai, Tangulbei and Churo, Baringo County. The initiative expanded access to quality healthcare services for residents living within the Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) area of responsibility.

A multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals provided free medical consultations, treatment, essential medicines and health education to hundreds of residents. The outreach brought critical healthcare services closer to communities, addressing immediate medical needs while demonstrating the value of collaborative partnerships in delivering humanitarian support.

The programme extended beyond clinical treatment by empowering residents with knowledge on disease prevention, healthy living, proper hygiene practices and the importance of seeking timely medical attention. Through these health education sessions, community members gained practical information that will help prevent illness, encourage healthier lifestyles and improve long-term public health outcomes.

The outreach strengthened the partnership between the Kenya Defence Forces and local communities by reinforcing mutual trust and shared responsibility in advancing community welfare. Working alongside healthcare and humanitarian partners also demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated interventions in reaching vulnerable populations with essential services.

By combining operational presence with humanitarian outreach, the Kenya Defence Forces continues to support national efforts to improve public health and community resilience. Such initiatives underscore the role of Civil-Military Cooperation in building stronger relationships with the communities KDF serves while contributing to a safer, healthier and more resilient society.
