STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE THROUGH HUMANITARIAN CIVIC ASSISTANCE

Efforts to strengthen community relations and enhance security cooperation along the Kenya-Somalia border continue to bear fruit through humanitarian initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and improving local resilience.

In line with its commitment to supporting civilian populations within its area of responsibility, KDF troops in the Hamey region conducted a Humanitarian Civic Assistance (HCA) patrol at DAGATHE Village, which lies  near the Kenya-Somalia border.

The outreach targeted a community facing challenges related to limited access to clean water and primary healthcare services. The area remains operationally significant due to cross-border movement and security considerations, with civilian transport vehicles operating between HOSINGO, HAGADERA, DADAAB and IFO Refugee Camps through DAGATHE Village.

During the exercise, KDF distributed more than 18,000 litres of clean water to households within the village and provided basic medical treatment to residents suffering from common illnesses. The activity brought together local residents, village elders and military personnel in a collaborative effort aimed at addressing immediate humanitarian needs while fostering stronger community relations.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for civil-military interaction, where village elders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Kenya Defence Forces in maintaining peace and security along the border. Local residents expressed appreciation for the assistance, noting that such initiatives help address critical community needs while strengthening trust and cooperation.

The Humanitarian Civic Assistance activity demonstrated responsiveness to the welfare needs of the local population and reinforced the importance of partnership between security agencies and border communities. The initiative further enhanced community support for ongoing security operations by improving trust, strengthening early warning networks and boosting resilience against cross-border threats.
