Maj-Gen. Ngewa Mukala has officially taken the oath of office to serve as the new Kenya Navy Commander in a colourful swearing ceremony held at State House on 15 th July 2011.Maj. Gen N. Mukala previously served as the Deputy Navy Commander .
The appointment of the top military brass was conducted on 13 th July 2011 by President Mwai Kibaki also the Commander in chief of the Kenya Defence Forces who promoted him to the rank Major General.
The new Kenya Navy Commander takes office from Lt. Gen Samson Mwathethe who was appointed as the new Vice Chief of the Defence Force.
