Sustainable peace and security are built through enduring partnerships, continuous dialogue and a shared determination to address emerging challenges. Strong relationships between peace support forces and local leadership remain essential in consolidating security gains, strengthening governance and creating an environment where communities can thrive.
This spirit of cooperation was evident when the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Sector II Commander, Brigadier Edward Banda, accompanied by Brigadier Joel Maiyo, paid a courtesy call on the Jubaland leadership at the State House in Kismayo.
The delegation was received by the Speaker of the Jubaland Parliament, Hon. Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman, who represented the President of Jubaland, H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Islam. The engagement provided an opportunity to reaffirm the close working relationship between the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), serving under AUSSOM, and the Jubaland administration in advancing regional peace and stability.
During the meeting, Hon. Abdirahman expressed the Jubaland administration’s appreciation for the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by KDF personnel throughout their deployment. He commended the troops for their consistent efforts in enhancing security while supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of local communities.
He noted that the combination of effective security operations and humanitarian assistance has strengthened public confidence, fostered stability and created conditions that support socio-economic development across Jubaland. The Speaker acknowledged that the enduring partnership between KDF and the people of Jubaland has played a significant role in advancing peace and improving the lives of residents.
The discussions also focused on the importance of maintaining close coordination between security institutions and civil leadership to address evolving threats while safeguarding the gains already achieved. Such engagements continue to reinforce mutual trust, improve cooperation and promote a unified approach to peace support operations.
Brigadier Banda reaffirmed KDF’s commitment to working closely with the Jubaland administration and other stakeholders to strengthen security and support long-term stabilization efforts. He emphasized that continued collaboration remains essential in addressing regional security challenges and creating a secure environment that enables governance, development and prosperity to flourish.
The courtesy call highlighted the enduring value of strong partnerships in peace support operations. Through sustained cooperation, shared responsibility and mutual respect, KDF and the Jubaland leadership continue to reinforce the foundations of lasting peace, stability and resilience for the people of Somalia.
