Soldiers who put God first in their service stand with greater courage, discipline, and resilience, knowing that the Lord is their shield and pillar. This was the message delivered by the Right Reverend Dr. Francis Omondi, Bishop of the Garissa Diocese, during his pastoral visit to St. Thomas Anglican Church, Wajir Airbase.
Bishop Omondi addressed troops drawn from the Close Operations Headquarters; Second Infantry Brigade, Wajir Army Camp, and Wajir Airbase, urging them to remain prayerful at all times and to anchor their operations in faith. He reminded them that true strength comes not only from military training but from spiritual grounding, which equips soldiers to withstand hardship, maintain discipline, and serve with integrity.
At the heart of his message was the conviction that God must be at the center of every mission. “When you put God first, He becomes your shield in battle and your pillar in times of trial,” the bishop encouraged. He emphasized that prayer is the soldier’s greatest weapon, sustaining them through the physical and emotional demands of duty.
Bishop Omondi also turned his prayers toward the families of the soldiers, blessing them and asking God to grant them peace, protection, and stability. He reminded the troops that strong family bonds reinforce their resilience in service, and that their loved ones are partners in their mission.
The pastoral visit concluded with Bishop Omondi praying for the success and safety of upcoming close operations, committing the soldiers and their families to God’s care. He urged them to remain steadfast in faith, uphold moral and ethical standards, and continually draw on spiritual guidance as their source of strength both in service and in family life.
