Strengthening partnerships remains essential to addressing evolving security challenges, enhancing defence capabilities, and promoting regional stability in an increasingly interconnected security environment. Cooperation between nations and institutions provides a platform for sharing expertise, building capacity, and developing coordinated responses to emerging threats that transcend national borders.
In line with this a delegation from the European Peace Facility (EPF) visited the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between Kenya and the European Union on matters of peace and security.
The delegation was received by Brigadier Carolyne Mutisya, of Defence Headquarters, alongside senior Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers. The engagement provided an opportunity for both parties to review ongoing initiatives, exchange perspectives on areas of mutual interest, and explore avenues for deepening defence cooperation.
Discussions centred on the evolving security landscape, defence capacity development, and opportunities for enhanced collaboration under the European Peace Facility framework. The delegation was also briefed on the Kenya Defence Forces’ strategic priorities and its continued contribution to promoting peace, security, and stability within Kenya and the wider region.
Speaking during the engagement, Brigadier Mutisya highlighted the value of sustained international partnerships in strengthening institutional capabilities and addressing contemporary security challenges. She acknowledged the European Union’s continued support towards initiatives that enhance regional and international peace and security, noting that such collaborations contribute significantly to building resilient and effective security institutions.
The meeting further explored opportunities for cooperation in professional military education, strategic planning, knowledge exchange, and capacity building. These areas were identified as important pillars for strengthening mutual understanding, improving interoperability, and enhancing the ability of defence institutions to respond effectively to emerging security demands.
The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between Kenya and the European Union and underscored a shared commitment to advancing common security objectives through dialogue, collaboration, and sustained engagement. As regional and global security dynamics continue to evolve, such partnerships remain critical in fostering collective approaches to peace, stability, and sustainable security.
