MODERN MILITARY HOUSING PROGRAMME SET TO TRANSFORM THE WELFARE OF KDF PERSONNEL

Modern, safe and dignified housing remains a key pillar in enhancing the welfare and morale of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel. To address the growing demand for quality accommodation, the Ministry of Defence is implementing military housing programmes countrywide under the Government’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), a transformative initiative that is set to improve the living conditions of thousands of military personnel and their families.

As part of the Ministry’s continued oversight of these strategic infrastructure projects, Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru today conducted a site visit at the ongoing AHP housing projects at Lang’ata and Kahawa Garrisons reaffirming the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to improving the welfare of KDF personnel through the provision of modern and adequate housing.

At Lang’ata Garrison, the project comprises 38 residential blocks with a total of 1,470 housing units. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027. At Kahawa Garrison, the project comprises 65 residential blocks with a total of 3,285 housing units. A section of the housing units is expected to be completed and ready for occupation by the end of this year, while the remaining units are scheduled for completion in 2027.

Through a collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and the State Department for Housing and Urban Development (SDHUD), MOD is delivering a total of 10,095 Phase 1 housing units under AHP across Lang’ata Garrison, Embakasi Garrison, Kahawa Garrison, Moi Air Base and Roysambu Military Camp. The development comprises 4,100 family housing units and 5,995 single living quarters for military personnel, in line with the vision of His Excellency Dr William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, to provide decent and affordable housing for Kenyans.

These AHP projects complements the 3,069 housing units being delivered under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) programme in Roysambu, Nanyuki, Lanet, Gilgil and Mariakani Barracks. The Roysambu, 500-unit project, was completed and handed over to beneficiaries in February this year, while the remaining four projects are almost complete.
